The ideal Renaissance city desired by the humanist Enea Silvio Piccolomini, Pope Pius II, stands unchanged in the middle of the luminous landscape of the Val d’Orcia. The theme of light, fundamental in the architectural conception of the Pope for the construction of his city, is evoked by the poet Mario Luzi who was inspired several times by this land
